1.
புக்க ணைந்து புரிந்தல ரிட்டிலர்
நக்க ணைந்து நறுமலர் கொய்திலர்
சொக்க ணைந்த சுடரொளி வண்ணனை
மிக்குக் காணலுற் றாரங் கிருவரே.
at that time those two, Māl and Piramaṉ.
approaching the place where Civaṉ dwelt.
did not place flowers at his feet with love.
did not pluck fragrant flowers entering into the flowers garden with joy.
tried to see Civan who has the brightness of fire which has beauty, being on the brink of pride.

அலரு நீருங்கொண் டாட்டித் தெளிந்திலர்
திலக மண்டலந் தீட்டித் திரிந்திலர்
உலக மூர்த்தி யொளிநிற வண்ணனைச்
செலவு காணலுற் றாரங் கிருவரே.

did not have a clear idea of Civaṉ by scattering flowers at his feet and bathing him with water.
did not go from left to right and fall on the earth for the small circular mark on the forehead to come into contact with it.
Civaṉ who has the world as his visible form and has the bright colour of the light.
tried to see him by flying in the sky and digging into the earth.

ஆப்பி நீரோ டலகுகைக் கொண்டிலர்
பூப்பெய் கூடை புனைந்து சுமந்திலர்
காப்புக் கொள்ளி கபாலிதன் வேடத்தை
ஓப்பிக் காணலுற் றாரங் கிருவரே.
they did not have in their hands cow-dung mixed with water to cleanse the ground, and broom-stick to remove the dirt.
they did not carry baskets of flowers knitting them into garlands.
Māl and Piramaṉ tried to find the form of Kapāli, Civaṉ who has a skull and who takes upon himself protection of the world.
4.
நெய்யும் பாலுங்கொண் டாட்டி நினைந்திலர்
பொய்யும் பொக்கமும் போக்கிப் புகழ்ந்திலர்
ஐயன் வெய்ய அழல்நிற வண்ணனை
மெய்யைக் காணலுற் றாரங் கிருவரே.
those two persons Māl and Piramaṉ did not meditate on Civan by bathing him with ghee and milk.
did not praise him driving away from them falsehood and deceit.
tried to see the body of Civan who has the colour of the hot fire.
and who is the master.

எருக்கங் கண்ணிகொண் டிண்டை புனைந்திலர்
பெருக்கக் கோவணம் பீறி யுடுத்திலர்
தருக்கி னாற்சென்று தாழ்சடை யண்ணலை
நெருக்கிக் காணலுற் றாரங் கிருவரே.
those two persons Māl and piraman.
did not adorn Civan with a chaplet of yarcum flowers and a circlet of the same flowers did not wear a loin-cloth, tearing it form a big cloth to be large enough to hide the private parts.
tried to see the god who has a hanging caṭai by even going close to him, by their arrogance.
6.
மரங்க ளேறி மலர்பறித் திட்டிலர்
நிரம்ப நீர்சுமந் தாட்டி நினைந்திலர்
உரம்பொ ருந்தி யொளிநிற வண்ணனை
நிரம்பக் காணலுற் றாரங் கிருவரே.
those two persons Māl and Piramaṉ did not lay flowers at the feet of Civaṉ by climbing on trees and plucking them.
did not bathe him carrying water in large quantities and did not think of him.
being strong on account of their pride.
tried to see Civaṉ who has the colour of the bright light, completely.
7.
கட்டு வாங்கங் கபாலங்கைக் கொண்டிலர்
அட்ட மாங்கங் கிடந்தடி வீழ்ந்திலர்
சிட்டன் சேவடி சென்றெய்திக் காணிய
பட்ட கட்டமுற் றாரங் கிருவரே.
those two persons, Māl and Piramaṉ.
they did not carry in their hands a battle-axe and a skull.
did not prostrate at the feet of Civaṉ, in salvation, in which the eight members of the body viz.
feet, hands, shoulders, breast and forehead touch the ground.
underwent all sufferings that one has to undergo to see the feet of Civaṉ who is eminent, going to reach them.

வெந்த நீறு விளங்க அணிந்திலர்
கந்த மாமல ரிண்டை புனைந்திலர்
எந்தை யேறுகந் தேறெரி வண்ணனை
அந்தங் காணலுற் றாரங் கிருவரே.
those two persons Māl and piraman.
did not wear well burnt sacred ash to shine well.
did not knit with fragrant flowers a circlet.
tried to see the beginning and end of Civan who has the colour of fire, who is our father and who rides with joy on a bull.
9.
இளவெ ழுந்த இருங்குவ ளைம்மலர்
பிளவு செய்து பிணைத்தடி யிட்டிலர்
களவு செய்தொழிற் காமனைக் காய்ந்தவன்
அளவு காணலுற் றாரங் கிருவரே.
those two persons, Māl and Piramaṉ did not place at the feet of Civaṉ, knitting the blue nelumbo flowers which grew-luxuriantly.
tried to see the nature of the head and feet of Civaṉ who burnt Kāmaṉ who secretly creates love in human beings.

கண்டி பூண்டு கபாலங்கைக் கொண்டிலர்
விண்ட வான்சங்கம் விம்மவாய் வைத்திலர்
அண்ட மூர்த்தி யழல்நிற வண்ணனைக்
கெண்டிக் காணலுற் றாரங் கிருவரே.
those two persons Māl and piraman.
adorning themselves with a necklace of Uruttirākkam.
did not hold in their hands a skull.
did not blow the big conch of wide open hole to make a sound Civaṉ who has the colour of fire and who has as his form all the worlds.
digging into the earth and flying in the sky, tried to all the nature of the feet and head.
11.
செங்க ணானும் பிரமனுந் தம்முளே
எங்குந் தேடித் திரிந்தவர் காண்கிலர்
இங்குற் றேனென்றி லிங்கத்தே தோன்றினான்
பொங்கு செஞ்சடைப் புண்ணிய மூர்த்தியே.
Māl who has red eyes and Piramaṉ who were opposed to each other could not see Civaṉ, though they wandered everywhere searching him.
Civaṉ who has the form of all virtuous acts and bright red caṭai appeared in a linkam, saying `I am here`.
