Repeat Namasivaya ten million times

The Lord of the temple is praised by saint Thirunavukkarasar in his Thevaram hymns.  This is the 103rd Lord Shiva temples on the southern bank of Cauvery praised in Thevaram hymns.

Lords Vishnu, Brahmma, Vinayaka, Muruga and Indira, Sages Sukha Muni and Agasthya had worshipped Lord in this temple performing pujas.

A king Vasudevan by name visited a number of Shiva temples seeking child boon.  They worshipped with all devotion Lord Nellaiappar in Tirunelveli.  Pleased with their prayer, Lord made Mother Parvathi to be their daughter and Mother Chamundeeswari Her nurse.  When the royal couple was bathing in Tambiraparani, they found a conch floating on a lotus.  When they picked up the conch, it became a child.  They named the child Rajarajeswari.  As decided by the Lord, Chamundeeswari one of the Saptha Madhas became the nurse of the child Raja Rajeswari.  Rajarajeswari mastered all the arts and the Chess in particular.  The king announced that the one who won his daughter in Chess would have her hand.  But none could win her.

The king, as advised by a sage took on a pilgrimage with his queen, daughter, her nurse Chamundeeswari and his convoy.  Lord in the guise of a Siddha met the king and claimed that he was master of chess game.  The king welcomed the siddha to play with his daughter.  Lord in the guise of Siddha won the game and appeared in His true form granting darshan to all.  The divine wedding took place with all its due pomp and splendour.  As Lord won the chess game-Chaturangam in Tamil, came to be praised as Chaturanga Vallaba Nathar.  Ambica and Her nurse Chamundeeswari bless the devotees from their respective shrines.  Lord joined them to stay in the place.  The temple came into being.

Sri Chaturanga Vallabha Nathar Temple, Poovanur-612 803, Needamangalam Taluk, Tiruvarur district.

the sins of those who repeat the names of the pure god, Civaṉ who dwells in Pūvaṉur in the tongues one crore times will disappear, being scattered.
will become richer than the King of the immortals intiraṉ.

Civaṉ is my close companion is like my wife.
is like my father.
is my precious life.
who is the gold which is the wealth of the slave and devotee who is myself.
who is the embodiment of all virtues who dwells with desire in pūvaṉūr.
it is difficult to know his nature as a person of such and such a character.

People of this world who have many accumulation of faults and not many good qualities!
you can destroy the bad acts done, in addition to those.
Civaṉ who has as ornaments cobras living in anthills.
learn the names of the Lord in pūvaṉūr and praise him before you pass away from this world.

Civaṉ bathes in the five products which are obtained from the cow.
who has a red form on which pure and white sacred ash is smeared thickly.
the good and bad acts of those who enters into pūvaṉūr on the southern bank of veṇṇi, which is the abode of Civaṉ who expounded the vētam to be studied, will go away from them.

the places of Civaṉ who has a vehicle of a bull.
are pūvaṉūr Nallam which has water full of flowers Nallam is now known as Koṉērirājapuram in Tanjāvūr Dt.
naṉipaḷḷiūr this was the birth place of the mother of campantar tillaiyūr citamparam tiruvarūr cīkaḻi if one utters good vallam as his places.
the irresitible acts will vanish.

not being repentant owing to thinking, `that is good and this is bad` with a tender heart and having eyes filled with tears.
those who praise the pure Civaṉ in pūvaṉūr are superior to other human beings.

Civaṉ the chief who is the cause of all things.
who is worshipped by the immortals scattering flowers and uttering his names.
who is always chanting the vētams in his tongue.
who has as a half the beautiful and young daughter of the mountain.
the master in pūvaṉūr in the south is the chief of the big army of the pūtāms which is extensive.

pūvaṉūr cool puṟampayam nāvalūr which has flower-gardens.
including naḷḷaṟu naṉṉilam Kōvalūr Kuṭavāyil Koṭumuṭi and mūvalūr these are the shrines of Civaṉ who has three eyes, People of this world!
go on pilgrimage to visit these places.

being cheated by the trickish words of amanar, who were my enemies and knew not slightest suffering and who committed sinful acts.
this is the day when I entered into pūvaṉūr which is the beautiful shrine of Civaṉ who is superior to all other gods.

Civaṉ perfect in all attributes to whose feet nāraṇaṉ, Piramaṉ of four faces, intiraṉ, vivāyakan and Kumaraṉ make obeisance.
who is a youth in his prime and who is the first cause of all things who is in pūvaṉūr and who admitted me as his protege.

as soon as the arakkaṉ whose colour was like the sable cloud entered into the foot of the hill and lifted it.
when the toe of the foot of the Lord in pūvaṉūr which was bent upon destroying the pride of Irāvaṇaṉ, was slightly pressed.
when his body was squeezed like a bag.
he saved himself singing the Cāma vētam
