All good things will reach those who meditate Sivan

Lord of the temple is praised in the Thevaram hymns of Saint Gnana Sambandar.This is the 60th Shiva temple on the southern bank of Cauvery praised in Thevaram hymns

Sri Sukshma Pureeswarar Temple, (Tiru Chirukudi), Cherukudi, Saraboji Rajapuram Post- 609 503, Via Poonthottam, Kudavasal Post, Tiruvarur district

The place is named Sukshma Pureeswaram as couples separated earlier had a re-union here.  The temple is praised by Saint Tirugnana Sambandar in his Thevaram hymns.  Sun God, Sage Vishwamitra and Gandharvas had worshipped Lord in this temple.

Planet Mars-Angaraka had his curse relieved in this temple.  Those under adverse aspects of this planet will overcome delays in their marriages and the sick will be cured, if they worship him in the temple.

Tuesdays in Masi month-February-March are suggested for Mars worship when special pujas are performed here with Vilwa leaves and Mangala Theertham-water from a well-for the reunion of couples.  Those afflicted by Mars problems visit the temple in large numbers for relief.

The Navagraha-9 planets-mandap in the temple is different.  Child Saint Tirugnana Sambandar who sang the Kolaru Pathigam (a prayer to Lord Shiva with Mother for relief from the adverse aspects of planets and other natural dangers people face in life) is along with the planets.

It may be recalled that ripe Saint Tirunavukkarasar advised Child Tirugnana Sambandar to postpone his Madurai trip to debate with the Jain monks and to save the Pandya king, as the time then was not auspicious and very unfavourable then.  The Child Saint simply said that the planets would never be hostile to Shiva devotees.  The Kolaru Pathigam is the outcome of this event.  This is being chanted by all believers as a daily prayer.  So the child saint is also among the planets as their beloved one.  The added significance is that Lord Bhairava and Lord Vinayaka are in this mandap.

திடமலி மதிளணி சிறுகுடி மேவிய
படமலி யரவுடை யீரே
படமலி யரவுடை யீருமைப் பணிபவர்
அடைவது மமருல கதுவே.

பொழிப்புரை :

வலிமைமிக்க மதில்களையுடைய அழகிய திருச்சிறுகுடி என்னும் திருத்தலத்தில் விரும்பி வீற்றிருந்தருளுகின்ற , படமெடுக்கும் பாம்பை அணிந்துள்ள சிவபெருமானே ! அவ்வாறு படமெடுக்கும் பாம்பை அணிந்துள்ள உம்மை வணங்குபவர்கள் சிவலோகம் அடைவர் .

சிற்றிடை யுடன்மகிழ் சிறுகுடி மேவிய
சுற்றிய சடைமுடி யீரே
சுற்றிய சடைமுடி யீரும தொழுகழல்
உற்றவ ருறுபிணி யிலரே.

குறுகிய இடையையுடைய உமாதேவியை உடனாகக் கொண்டு மகிழ்ச்சியுடன் திருச்சிறுகுடி என்னும் திருத்தலத்தில் விரும்பி வீற்றிருந்தருளுகின்ற சுற்றிய சடைமுடியுடைய சிவபெருமானே ! சுற்றிய சடைமுடியுடைய உம் திருவடிகளைத் தொழுது வணங்குபவர்கட்குப் பிணி எதுவும் இல்லை .

தெள்ளிய புனலணி சிறுகுடி மேவிய
துள்ளிய மானுடை யீரே
துள்ளிய மானுடை யீரும தொழுகழல்
உள்ளுதல் செயநல முறுமே.

பொழிப்புரை :

தெளிந்த நீர்வளமுடைய திருச்சிறுகுடி என்னும் திருத்தலத்தில் விரும்பி வீற்றிருந்தருளுகின்ற , துள்ளிக் குதிக்கும் மானைக் கரத்தில் ஏந்தியுள்ள சிவபெருமானே ! துள்ளிக் குதிக்கும் மானை உடைய உம்முடைய திருவடிகளை நினைத்துத் தியானிக்கும் அடியவர்கள் எல்லா நலன்களையும் பெறுவர் .

செந்நெல வயலணி சிறுகுடி மேவிய
ஒன்னலர் புரமெரித் தீரே
ஒன்னலர் புரமெரித் தீருமை யுள்குவார்
சொன்னல முடையவர் தொண்டே.

பொழிப்புரை :

செந்நெல் விளையும் வயல்வளமிக்க திருச்சிறுகுடி என்னும் திருத்தலத்தில் விரும்பி வீற்றிருந்தருளுகின்ற , நம்மோடு சேராது பகைமை கொண்ட அசுரர்கள் வாழும் திரிபுரங்களை எரித்த சிவபெருமானே ! திரிபுரம் எரித்த உம்மை நினைத்துப் போற்றும் சொல் நலமுடையவர்களே திருத்தொண்டர்கள் ஆவர் . ( உமது வழிபாட்டின் பலனைப் பற்றிப் பிறருக்கு உபதேசிக்கும் தக்கோர் ஆவர் என்பர் ).

செற்றினின் மலிபுனற் சிறுகுடி மேவிய
பெற்றிகொள் பிறைமுடி யீரே
பெற்றிகொள் பிறைமுடி யீருமைப் பேணிநஞ்
சற்றவ ரருவினை யிலரே.

பொழிப்புரை :

பாத்திகளில் குன்றாது பாயும் நீர்வளமுடைய திருச்சிறுகுடி என்னும் திருத்தலத்தில் விரும்பி வீற்றிருந்தருளுகின்ற , முடியில் தங்கும் பேறுபெற்ற பிறைச்சந்திரனை அணிந்த சடைமுடி உடைய சிவபெருமானே ! பேறுபெற்ற பிறைச்சந்திரனை அணிந்த திருமுடியுடைய உம்மை மனம் குழைந்து வழிபடுபவர்கள் உலகப் பற்றற்றவர்கள் . அதன் காரணமாக மேல்வரும் அருவினையும் இல்லாதவராவர் .

செங்கயல் புனலணி சிறுகுடி மேவிய
மங்கையை யிடமுடை யீரே
மங்கையை யிடமுடை யீருமை வாழ்த்துவார்
சங்கைய திலர்நலர் தவமே.

பொழிப்புரை :

செங்கயல்மீன் விளங்கும் நீர்வளமிக்க திருச்சிறுகுடி என்னும் திருத்தலத்தில் விரும்பி வீற்றிருந்தருளுகின்ற , உமாதேவியைத் தம் இடப்பாகமாகக் கொண்டு விளங்கும் சிவபெருமானே ! உமாதேவியைத் தம் இடப்பாகமாகக் கொண்டு விளங்கும் உம்மை வாழ்த்தும் அடியவர்கள் அச்சம் இல்லாதவராவர் . நலமிக்கவரும் , தவப்பேறு உடையவரும் ஆவர் .

செறிபொழி றழுவிய சிறுகுடி மேவிய
வெறிகமழ் சடைமுடி யீரே
வெறிகமழ் சடைமுடி யீருமை விரும்பிமெய்ந்
நெறியுணர் வோருயர்ந் தோரே.

பொழிப்புரை :

அடர்ந்த சோலைகள் விளங்கும் திருச்சிறுகுடி என்னும் திருத்தலத்தில் விரும்பி வீற்றிருந்தருளுகின்ற நறுமணம் கமழும் சடைமுடியுடைய சிவபெருமானே ! நறுமணம் கமழும் சடைமுடியுடைய உம்மை விரும்பி , அடைவதற்குரிய நெறிகளில் சன்மார்க்க நெறியில் நிற்போர் உயர்ந்தோராவர் .

திசையவர் தொழுதெழு சிறுகுடி மேவிய
தசமுக னுரநெரித் தீரே
தசமுக னுரநெரித் தீருமைச் சார்பவர்
வசையறு மதுவழி பாடே.

பொழிப்புரை :

எல்லாத் திக்குக்களிலுமுள்ளவர்கள் தொழுது போற்றும் திருச்சிறுகுடி என்னும் திருத்தலத்தில் வீற்றிருந்தருளுகின்றவரும் , இராவணனின் வலிமை அடங்கும்படி கயிலைமலையின் கீழ் அவனை நெரித்தவருமான சிவபெருமானே ! அவ்வாறு இராவணனின் வலிமையை அடக்கிய உம்மைப் பற்றுக்கோடாகக் கொண்டு வழிபடுபவர்களின் குற்றம் யாவும் தீர்ந்து குணம் பெருகும் . அது உம்மை வழிபட்டதன் பலனாகும் .

செருவரை வயலமர் சிறுகுடி மேவிய
இருவரை யசைவுசெய் தீரே
இருவரை யசைவுசெய் தீருமை யேத்துவார்
அருவினை யொடுதுய ரிலரே.

பொழிப்புரை :

வயல்வளமிக்க திருச்சிறுகுடி என்னும் திருத்தலத்தில் விரும்பி வீற்றிருந்தருளுகின்றவரும் , மாறுபாடு கொண்ட திருமால் , பிரமன் இவர்களை வருத்தியவருமான சிவபெருமானே ! அவ்விருவரையும் வருத்திய உம்மைப் போற்றி வழிபடுபவர்கள் நீக்குவதற்குரிய வினையும் , அதன் விளைவால் உண்டாகும் துன்பமும் இல்லாதவர்கள் ஆவர் .

செய்த்தலை புனலணி சிறுகுடி மேவிய
புத்தரோ டமண்புறத் தீரே
புத்தரொ டமண்புறத் தீருமைப் போற்றுதல்
பத்தர்கள் தம்முடைப் பரிசே.

பொழிப்புரை :

வயல்களில் நீர்பாயும் அழகிய சிறுகுடி என்னும் திருத்தலத்தில் வீற்றிருந்தருளுகின்றவராய்ப் , புத்தர் , சமணர்கட்குப் புறம்பாக இருக்கும் சிவபெருமானே ! புத்தர் சமணர்கட்குப் புறம்பான உம்மைப் போற்றி வணங்குதலையே பக்தர்கள் தம்முடைய பேறாகக் கொள்வர் .

தேனமர் பொழிலணி சிறுகுடி மேவிய
மானமர் கரமுடை யீரே
மானமர் கரமுடை யீருமை வாழ்த்திய
ஞானசம் பந்தன தமிழே.

பொழிப்புரை :

வண்டுகள் விரும்பும் சோலைகளை உடைய அழகிய திருச்சிறுகுடி என்னும் திருத்தலத்தில் விரும்பி வீற்றிருந்தருளுகின்ற , மான் ஏந்திய கரமுடைய சிவபெருமானே ! மான் ஏந்திய கரமுடைய உம்மை வாழ்த்திப் போற்றிய ஞானசம்பந்தனின் இத் தமிழ்ப் பதிகத்தை ஓதவல்லவர்கள் இம்மை , மறுமைப் பலன்களைப் பெறுவர் .

Civaṉ who has a cobra which has a big hood and who dwells with desire in Ciṟukuṭi which has a very strong wall of enclosure!

Civaṉ who has a caṭai coiled into a crown and wound, and who dwells in ciṟukuṭi where you feel joy with a lady of small waist!
see 2nd line those who have approached your feet fit to be worshipped have no big diseases.

Civaṉ who holds a leaping deer and dwells in ciṟukuṭi which has clear water.

all good things will reach those who meditate upon your feet fit to be worshipped.

Civaṉ who burnt the cities of the enemies and who dwells with desire in ciṟukuṭi surrounded by fields which produce a superior kind of paddy of yellowish hue!
see 2nd line those who meditate upon you have fitness to expound the greatness of performing service to you.

Civaṉ who wears on his head a crescent which has the fortune of staying there and who dwells with desire in ciṟukuṭi which has abundant water in the small fields see 2nd line.
those whose hearts become softened by cherishing you with love and are free from attachments have no karmams which are irresistible .

Civaṉ who has a young lady on the left side and who dwells with desire is cirukuṭi made beautiful by water which abounds in red carp fish.

those who sing songs of benediction do not have any fear;
they are people with good penance to their credit

Civaṉ who dwells with desire in ciṟukuṭi surrounding by dense gardens!

Civaṉ who crushed the strength of the ten-headed arakkaṉ and who dwells in ciṟukuṭi which is worshipped by people coming from all directions?

Civaṉ who caused exhaustion to two persons Māl and Piramaṉ and who dwells in ciṟukuṭi where there are fields which have ridges like battle-fields.

those who praise you have no irresistible Karmams and sufferings as a result of them.

Civaṉ who is beyond the reach of buddhists and amaṇar and who dwells with desire in cirukuṭi made beautiful by the water in the fields.
