Lord Siva guide the way to Sundarar

Way’s Guide:   Sundarar who took a pilgrimage went to Vriddhachalam.  When he crossed this place, he lost his way.  So, he stopped at a place and prayed to Lord Siva to show him the way.  At that time an old man came there and asked him: “ Sir! You have stopped in the middle of this wild path.  Where do you want to go?” Sundarar told him that he had lost the way.  The old man said that he would show the way and took Sundarar with him.  He went up to the holy place Koodalaiyaarrur and showed him the path.  When Sundarar wanted to thank him, he disappeared.  Sundarar understood that the Lord Himself had shown him the way when he stood in confusion. The joyful Sundarar hailed the Lord with his poems.  Lord Siva who directed the path of Sundarar graces the devotees in this sacred place.  ‘Maargam’ is the Way.  Hence, the Lord of this place is known as Maargasahayeswarar.  He is also called ‘Vazhithunai Nathar’ (the Tamil version of  ‘Maargasahayeswarar’)

In accordance to Tirunallaaru Dharbaaranyeswarar temple structure, Sani Bhagawan is at the front of sanctum, facing east.

The river Vellaaru that flows at the border of this city, takes a curve run only in this place.  This temple is situated at the banks of this river.   Those who are afraid of their lives, to get clarity and become steady-minded, come here on their star-day or any Monday, light ghee-lamp, offer sweet-rice to the Lord and worship.  The saying goes like this:  God is the refuge to the helpless.  This is the holy place of worship for those who are in utter confusion and have lost their lives, to get rid off their cravings and obtain peace of mind.  Ambal Maragathavalli is in a separate sanctum facing south.  During the Navarathiri days, She appears before the devotees seated on the ‘Unjal’ (swing).  At this period special poojas are performed to her by chanting ‘Abirami Antaadi’.  Lamp-poojas are performed in the Fridays of the months Aadi and Thai.  At the front mandapam is the sanctum of Lord Nataraja.  Muyalagan who is under His foot, is seen looking at the Lord’s foot lifting his head.  Special pooja is conducted to Lord Nataraja on Maargali Thiruvaathirai.  Guru Pooja event is specially celebrated at the Naalvar sanctum at the prakaaram.  Lord Muruga takes a procession on the Panguni Uthiram day.
