There is no doubt to rule over Sivalokam after death

Golden gifts.
A devotee of his is celebrated under the name of Kol-puli-Nayanar. At his earnest request Sundarar visited him and was received with extraordinary pomp, the chieftain bringing out his two daughters, whom he presents to him to be his slaves. The saint receives them with the words 'They shall be my daughters', and in the kindliest manner conversed with them and gave them presents. The incident throws light upon the habits and feelings of the time. From thence Sundarar returned home, and found that Paravaiyar was, as usual, in want of supplies, and the more so as a great feast was at hand. Accordingly he set out to the town of Pugalur and going to the temple implored the assistance of the god, and afterwards retiring to the neighbouring monastery (or choultry), gathered together some bricks which had been brought in for repairs, and piled them up as a kind of pillow, spreading over them his upper garment. He thus went to sleep, and when he awoke, behold! the bricks were gold, a wonderful circumstance which he commemorated in a suitable ode.


Greatness of Thirupugalur Temple 
This is the sacred land where Saint Tirunavukkarasar respectfully known as Appar Adigal attained salvation after serving the Lord by cleaning Shiva temple grounds and paths to enable devotees to walk comfortably with an instrument in his hands called Uzhavaram.  This land is praised as Salvation Centre.  Appar festival begins 10 days before Chithirai Sadayam Star dayin April-May.  The events includes his home coming from the Jains, the greatness of his Uzhavaram, dance of Deva women and his merging with Lord at the midnight of the fourth day festival.  Every devotee would be moved to see this episode only with tears in his/her eyes.

There are two shrines in the same temple for Saint Appar Adigal and Saint Sundarar.  Lord Agnipureeswar (Swayambumurthi), also praised as Sharanyapureeswarar, Pratyaksha Varadar and Konapiran is gracing devotees from a shrine.  Mother Karundhar Kuzhali, also praised as Sulikambal blesses devotees from other shrine.  Lord Vardamaneswarar and Mother Manonmani are in a separate shrine.  Muruga Nayanar served Lord Vardamaneswara by preparing garlands for Him.

This is also the place where Agni Bhagwan worshipped Lord Shiva and got relieved from a curse.  Though he has no form as such, he appears here with two faces, 7 hands, 7 jwala sparks, four horns and 3 feet.  This is a rare Agni Bhagwan idol.

Lord changed the bricks into gold bars for Saint Sundarar in this holy place.  Those building new houses bring bricks to the temples for vasthu and bhoomi puja to make the new building all prosperous.  Also, Mother Karundhar Kuzhali was gifted with a piece of land for her services to a woman in labour pain and is praised as Sulikambal.  There is no and will not be any infant or maternal mortality in this place, a belief people strongly hold.

The temple has a single shrine for Emperor Nala and Sani Bhagwan in the temple.  After Nala came out of a bath from the Bana Theertha, a voice from Sani Bhagwan said that He would leave the king from his adverse aspects at Tirunallar 7 km far from this place.  Saturn-Sani Bhagwan is this temple is praised as Anugraha Sani – merciful Sani.

The grace of Mother Karundhar Kuzhali towards Her devotees is boundless.  Sool in Tamil means pregnancy.  As She took care of a woman during her labour time and ensured safe delivery of the child, She is praised as Sulikambal.  Women strongly believe that nothing untoward would happen to them or the child as they under the direct grace of Mother Sulikambal.  People pray to Her offering vastras for child boon. 
Three Murthis in the temple, Bhoodeshwarar, Varthamaneswarar and Bhavishyeswarar are the symbols of past, present and future.  This is the birth place of Muruga Nayanar who worshipped Varthamaneswarar offering garlands made by him.  He has three faces – human, bird and a swine.  As devas sought asylum here for protection from the threats of demons, the place is also praised as Pugazhoor.

Vasthu purity is an important basis for constructing buildings.  This is a science that deals with the designing of the apartments in a particular direction – Kitchen, bathrooms, main hall, bedrooms etc. – at appropriate sides.  This would avoid any invisible troubles entering then.This is a temple noted for Vasthu prayer.  Before beginning the construction, people use to bring the bricks to the temple, perform archanas and take them back for the building work.

புரைவெள் ளேறுடைப் புண்ணி யன்புக
    லூரைப் பாடுமின் புலவீர்காள்
அரைய னாய்அம ருலகம் ஆள்வதற்
    கியாதும் ஐயுற வில்லையே.

வஞ்ச நெஞ்சனை மாச ழக்கனைப்
    பாவி யைவழக் கில்லியைப்
பஞ்ச துட்டனைச் சாது வேயென்று
    பாடி னுங்கொடுப் பாரிலை
பொன்செய் செஞ்சடைப் புண்ணி யன்புக
    லூரைப் பாடுமின் புலவீர்காள்
நெஞ்சில் நோயறுத் துஞ்சு போவதற்
    கியாதும் ஐயற வில்லையே.

நலமி லாதானை நல்ல னேயென்று
    நரைத்த மாந்தனை யிளையனே
குலமி லாதானைக் குலவ னேயென்று
    கூறி னுங்கொடுப் பாரிலை
புலமெ லாம்வெறி கமழும் பூம்புக
    லூரைப் பாடுமின் புலவீர்காள்
அலம ராதம ருலக மாள்வதற்
    கியாதும் ஐயுற வில்லையே.

நோய னைத்தடந் தோள னேயென்று
    நொய்ய மாந்தனை விழுமிய
தாயன் றோபுல வோர்க்கெ லாமென்று
    சாற்றி னுங்கொடுப் பாரிலை
போயு ழன்றுகண் குழியா தேயெந்தை
    புகலூர் பாடுமின் புலவீர்காள்
ஆய மின்றிப்போய் அண்ட மாள்வதற்

எள்வி ழுந்திடம் பார்க்கு மாகிலும்

    காம தேவனை யொக்குமே

    லூரைப் பாடுமின் புலவீர்காள்
அத்த னாய்அம ருலகம் ஆள்வதற்

Poets!
though you speak flattering words praising them.
and though you are always by their side.
without praising the hypocrites who are a bundle of lies and who are slaves to worldly pleasures.
praise the greatness of pukalūr of our father.
he will supply you in this birth itself plenty of food and clothing.
you can increase your fame.
the perishing of sufferings will also take place.
there is not the slightest doubt to rule in civalōkam after death.

Poets!
even though you praise one who has no strength as vīmaṉ.
even though you praise one this person is victorious Vicayaṉ himself in archery.
even though you praise one who does not give anything he is pāri himself in liberality there is no one who will give you what you want.
sing the fame of pukalūr of our god who is the embodiment of all virtues and has a body smeared with holy ash.
there will not be the slightest doubt to rule in the world of the celestials which is above the pile of several worlds.

poets!
even if you praise a person who has no landed property, he has extensive lands as his possession!
he is learned and has good conduct.
protecting Kinsmen and relations.
even though you praise he will be hospitable to guests there is no one who will give you anything you want.
sing the fame of cool pukalūr where the birds in the fields make a big noise when the farmers yoke the oxen and plough the fields.
there is not the slightest doubt for you to rule over the heaven residing there as linch-pin to the cart of that world.

poets!
hairs having turned grey all over the body.
the body having become decrepit.
having senility in an advanced stage.
there is no one who will give anything even though you bless this old man whose legs are quivering with old age, as one who possesses globular shoulders as strong as the mountain.
sing the praises of pukalūr which is the abode of Civaṉ who is the embodiment of all virtues and who has a superior white bull.
there is not the slightest doubt to rule over the heaven having become its King

about one who is a fraudulent person.
a wicked person.
one who commits sins.
one who has no right conduct one who commits the five heinous sins of killing, lying, stealing, drinking and abusing one`s guru.
even if you praise him as the good virtuous person there is no one who will give anything.
sing the praises of pukalūr of Civaṉ who is the embodiment of all virtues and who has a golden catai.
if you do so completely destroying the afflictions of the mind.
there is not the slightest doubt to save yourselves

praising one who is ugly as having much beauty.
praising one who has grey hairs as a youth no one will give anything even if you say about one who has no noble lineage as having noble birth.
sing the praises of beautiful pukālur where all fields spread the fragrance of lotus flowers.
these is not be the slightest doubt to rule over heaven without being confounded, permanently.

praising a sickly person as having big shoulders.
even though you say in public that mean persons are like the excellent mother overflowing in love towards poets.
there is no one who will give you anything.
without going to people, wandering becoming feeble and suffering from sinking of the eyes.
sing the praises of pukalūr of our father.
there is not the slightest doubt to rule ever heaven having gone there, without affliction.

even if one is so miserly as to search for a grain of sesame where it fell on the ground.
even if he does not give any thing to the small fly.
there is no one to give you anything even if you praise them as a person of unbounded liberality!
you who are our strength!
sing the praises of beautiful pukalūr where all birds go and flock together.
there is not the slightest doubt to save yourselves from sinking into the mire of worldly life.

Poets!
no one will give you anything even if you praise a person who has no learning as having vast budition and good qualities, is beautiful like the cupid, and who has no ripe knowledge and age, as one who possess those two things.
sing the praise of pukalur where the noise of the owls which like in the hollows of trees never cease.
there is not the slightest doubt about your ruling over the heaven becoming its masters.

there is none to give you anything even if you emphatically assert that a person who has a detestable appearance is as beautiful as cupid himself, and as one who has a beautiful, personality to be admired at among all males, as and the second of Murukaṉ who holds a vēl in his hand.
sing the praises of pukalūr where the buffaloes dive into the natural big tanks and small tanks.
there is not the slightest for you to rule over heaven having become its masters.

on the Lord who dwells in beautiful pukalūr where fertile lotus flowers grow tall in the fields.
a native of nāvalūr which has gardens having honey.
the father of vaṉappakai.
the son of caṭaiyaṉ.
those who are capable of singing the ten verses composed by uraṉ who has the title of vaṉtoṇdaṉ.
there is not the slightest doubt about they reaching the feet of Civaṉ who is the embodiment of all moral virtues, entering civalōkam after death.
