இரண்டாம் தந்திரம் - 2. பதிவலியில் வீரட்டம் எட்டு

கருத்துறை அந்தகன் றன்போல் அசுரன்
வரத்தின் உலகத் துயிர்களை எல்லாம்
வருத்தஞ்செய் தானென்று வானவர் வேண்டக்
குருத்துயர் சூலங்கைக் கொண்டுகொன் றானே

அக இருளாகிய ஆணவமலத்தை ஒத்து, `அந்தகன்` எனப் பெயர் பெற்ற அசுரன் ஒருவன் தான் பெற்ற வரத்தினால் உலகத்து உயிர்களை எல்லாம் துன்புறுத்த, அது பற்றி வருந்தி முறையிட்ட தேவர்கள் பொருட்டுச் சிவபெருமான் சூலத்தின் நுனியில் அவனை ஏற்றித் துன்புறுத்தி அழித்தார்.

Harassed worlds all``
—Thus the Celestial Beings moaned to the Lord;
And the Lord,
Lifting high His trident sharp
Pierced him straight to certain death.
